Review: Self Sacrifice

Self Sacrifice Self Sacrifice by Anya Summers
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Slightly different than the other Crescent City Kings books

I admit, I have read every one of the Crescent City Kings books. Some, I have liked more than others. Although this book does include some characters from previous books, this is truly a standalone.
Killian, a self-confessed womanising firefighter and Gen, an uptight ad exec meet during a fire. The immediate connection and a one night stand leaves both unsure and yearning for more. The tension in the book comes from the stubbornness of both characters and a little bit of OW and OM drama at the start. However, personally I did not like Gen's character very much. While Killian is stepping up to his responsibilities showing his feelings through his actions, Gen remains both blind, selfish and stubborn. More than that, her treatment of Joe was a big no no for me. For this reason I did not emotionally connect as much with the characters as I have done in previous books.

The heat level in the book was great and I really appreciated that the author tried to move away from the very similar type bedroom/BDSM scenes we usually read, without making it weird and awkward - or OTT. I will read other books from this author as I usually like her fare and don't think a personal preference on the story line of one book should change that.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
