Review: Run Posy Run

Run Posy Run Run Posy Run by Cate C. Wells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Read this in one sitting!

This story is a refreshing take on deliciously dark. Where others go dark in the physical sense, this one has a truely dark mind and I loved it!

The story starts off with a bang when Dario throws Posy out of the house after an old s3x tape of hers comes to light. He of course thinks she cheated on him. But the reason that Dario was so attracted to Posy is also the reason she then eludes him and the other danger chasing her. She might be a sucker for the illusion of love, but she has a great strategic mind and excels in different games- especially chess.

Dario realises his mistake early on and wants Posy back - but he is incapable of love - and empathy- and thinks himself a psychopath. He cannot understand his obsession with Posy. Getting her back in his house is only half the battle. The 2 navigate this strange dichotomy in their relationship - Posy that would do anything for love and Dario incapable of it - in such a way that neither looses themselves in trying to please the other. I loved how Dario became obsessed with making Posy happy and Posy refusing to do anything that would just make Dario happy in the latter part of the book. Their dynamic switched but in a way that still had Dario as the alpha in the relationship. This was a true feat by the author, but it does work!

There are of course some mafia shenanigans and a bit of blood thrown in. It is the emotional growth in the MCs and their unique relationship dynamic that made the HEA even more satisfying.

This book reminds me of Dead Man Walking which in many respects have a similar tension - although the amount of blood in Dead Man Walking is way higher!

Favourite quotes:

"It’s unfair that you can grieve a person who never existed, the loss of a love you made up in your head. But then again, life’s unfair."

"...but my mess fits perfectly against the jagged piece that’s missing from him."
