Review: Merciless Hunter : A Dark Mafia Romance

Merciless Hunter : A Dark Mafia Romance Merciless Hunter : A Dark Mafia Romance by Faith Summers
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Measuring a good story vs good writing

I have followed this series from the beginning. The overarching mystery storyline has kept me engaged and I liked the premise of each book. Some of the books being better than others.

In this book we have the tortured Aiden, whose wife was murdered and his son kidnapped. Enter Olivia, aligned to the enemy through force, she approaches Aiden for information. This meeting sets in motion Olivia's forced confinement by Aiden with sparks flying between the unwilling two. More revelations follow the information Olivia brings to the syndicate. See, an engaging plot.

So why only 3 stars? (Which, by the way, means I still liked it!) The forced confinement of the heroines in the series is getting boring. The enemies to lovers trope is just too overdone by now. And, unfortunately, once these niggles started, I also got more irritated with long, run on sentences and a lack of clarity in the writing. These are things I can usually forgive in a first or second book or in a great story. Now it just hindered the true potential of the story.

The book is still readable and if you are already invested in the series, you should not shy away from reading it.
