Review: Sweetened

Missing some magic and thus the mark

This is the 5th book in the Severton Search and Rescue series. And was I surprised that this author has written so many previous books! The reason: really bad editing; there are missing words and wrong words all over the place.

I loved the premise and was in the mood for a sweet small town romance. But in this story I was told more than shown. There are pranks between the 2 feuding neighbours but most of the time we were told about these after the fact. We are told that Jake was upset that Lainey bought the neighbouring farm but not why he was unable to....This meant that the supposed tension between Jake and Lainey felt overly contrived. The tension from Jake's playboy person felt more real. After a while the book just feels as if it plods along with the reader not part of any of the interesting action. I did not feel any connection with the characters.
In all this was just a total miss for me.
