The Cleaner by Jessica GadzialaMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
A great addition to the Navesink Bank universe
I love the Professionals series, more than any other from this author. If you have not started reading it, I highly recommend. The diversity in the series is a definite plus as I found that some of the books in other series became too predictable. However, keeping all the characters straight may become a turnoff if you have not read at least some of the books in this universe. I foresee a time when it will become imperative for Jessica to give a outline of who is who as part some of her longer running series.
On to the specifics of The Cleaner.
I always wondered how Finn could possibly find a match given his cleaning proclivities and quiet demeanor. He cleans the team's crime scenes, those they participate in and those of clients of the firm. making problems disappear is their business. And most of the time, those problems do not impact the moral code of the team. But it is my knowledge of the series that made me especially enjoy this book, although it could be read as a standalone.
Poppy is Finn's perfect match. As a true crime investigator, she is convinced that a serial killer is running wild in Navesink Bank. Not because the victim profiles match, but rather because of the exceptionally clean "crime scenes". Finn cannot help himself and has to meet Poppy in person when he learns of her sleuthing.
Her quirkiness and acceptance of Finn's strange coping mechanisms means this is an easy match with very likeable characters. I loved reading about their journey to their very own HEA. Finn so deserves this!
We meet some new faces in this book, making sure the series still has a couple of book options to go. I can't wait!
